SHADAR-KAI

Sworn to the Raven Queen's service, the mysterious shadar-kai venture into the Material Plane from the Shadowfell to advance her will. Once they were fey like the rest of their elven kin, and now they exist in a strange state between life and death. Eladrin and shadar-kai are like reflections of each other: one bursting with emotion, the other nearly devoid of it.

Shadar-kai are the elves of the Shadowfell, originally drawn to that dread realm by the Raven Queen. Over the centuries, some of them have continued to serve her, while others have ventured into the Material Plane to forge their own destinies.

Once shadar-kai were Fey like the rest of their elven kin; now they exist in a state between life and death, thanks to being transformed by the Shadowfell's grim energy.

It was believed that the origin of the shadar-kai dated to the failed attempt by the Raven Queen to ascend into divinity. Although their exact motivations remained largely unknown, it was believed that the shadar-kai were originally an elven kingdom from the Feywild who agreed to participate in a ritual to pledge their souls and magic to their queen so she could enter Arvandor and put a stop to the conflict between Corellon and Lolth that threatened to tear the Seldarine asunder.

Shadar-kai were mournful and joyless. They were neither benevolent or malevolent, though they were not inclined to follow rules.

Lifespan: Shadar-Kai reach adulthood in their late teens and live up to 500 years.

Height: Medium. Shadar-Kai typically stand between 150 - 180 cm tall.

Alignment: Often neutral or chaotic neutral due to their introspective and independent nature. Alignment can vary widely among individuals.

Necrotic Resistance:
- You have resistance to necrotic damage.
Blessing of the Raven Queen.
- As a bonus action, you can magically teleport up to 4 tiles to an unoccupied space you can see. You can use this trait once and you regain its use when you finish a long rest.
Darkvision:
- You can see in the dark (unless source of light is present, you see shades of grey)
Fey Ancestry.
- You have advantage on saving throws you make to avoid or end the charmed condition on yourself.
Keen Senses:
- Your Perception skill is increased by 2
Trance.
- You don't need to sleep, and magic can't put you to sleep. You can finish a long rest in 4 hours if you spend those hours in a trancelike meditation, during which you retain consciousness.
